Tuesday, January 27, 2009- Meet Jennifer...

Today I had a VERY long and hard day - but I will write about it at another time.

The result of it however - was a new baby girl who has been named Jennifer.

Jennifer is about 15 months old and I think she has mild Cerebral Palsy.

She seems to be well cared for and her Mum left her with a bag of clothes and a bottle of warm milk - so she obviously loves her little girl and yet felt she was unable to cope. We will try to find Jennifer's family and see if we can help them in any way - but for now Jennifer joins our Forever Angels Family bringing the total to 46 angels.

Saturday, January 24, 2009- VOLUNTEERS

We are still receiving amazing volunteers at the Baby Home and I get volunteer application forms every day.

Just to save some time and disappointment - we currenlty DO have space for volunteers from February 1st 2009 to the end of June and then from August onwards. We do NOT have any space in the Volunteer House in July.

We are most interested in LONG TERM volunteers - people who can commit to 3 months or more.
If you are interested in volunteering, please contact me on amy@foreverangels.org

- ChaCha and Orla and Baking....

This is ChaCha at home with her family. ChaCha is one of the families we have helped at Forever Angels. When we first met ChaCha she was very sick, unemployed and not able to care for her children.

Bahati and Dotto (on the left) were both at Forever Angels for about a year but now both live at home with their Mum and brother and sister. ChaCha is now employed by Forever Angels so we can continue to support her family and we can help her to care for her own children.

This is Orla - one of our Volunteers. Orla just spent a month at Forever Angels....her second time volunteering with us. Thank you SO much to Orla for ALL your help and support. We REALLY appreciate it.

These are the Baby Home children making scones with Orla......YUM!

Wednesday, January 21, 2009- New bundles....

Today we received 2 new baby boys....

The first - Dave Baraka Obama is named after two truly incredible men - my Dad, Dave, who died tragically last month - and the new President of America. - Baraka Obama. Baby Dave has a lot to live up to with this name!

The second little boy was also named Baraka (before we met him!). Baraka and Obama are VERY popular names in Africa right now!

Both boys were abandoned and so if family is not found, they will become available for adoption. They both weigh around 2.5kg and are generally healthy, if a little hungry. They are not related but do look very similar!
It has been a difficult few weeks in my family, and within Forever Angels....but life goes on and we have two beautiful baby boys to help us remember that.

Monday, January 12, 2009- Back in Tanzania

I must apologise for not writing for so long but it has been a very busy and tough month.

My family and I are now back in Tanzania after a month in England. We had a very difficult Christmas after losing my Dad, but it was comforting to spend time with our family.

It has been great to come back to the Baby Home and to see everything running so smoothly. Thank you so much to Chloe and Meghan for running the place so amazingly, to my wonderful Staff and to our great Volunteers. Thank you for making this very difficult time a little easier and for giving the children a great Christmas.

I think what has been reinforced to me this past few weeks, is that children are amazing! They make the world such a happy place despite all the bad and sadness which happens. They bring smiles and laughter where there were once tears and sadness and for that reason - I count myself very lucky to do the job I do!

Here are a few photos of the Baby Home children at Christmas time....

Thank you to everyone who donated Christmas shoe boxes and bags to our children - we really appreciate your kindness.

And then the best Christmas gift of all......Sophia and Tumaini with their new adoptive families.

I wish all of our Forever Angels Friends, Supporters and Donors - A Happy New Year 2009.
